The Oyster Shed, London
In keeping with its name, the downstairs bar is kitted out like a sea shack transported from a San Franciscan wharfside, with the punters sat on high stools around high tables. The dining room upstairs has an altogether different feel, with a more subdued and calm atmosphere more suited to dining. In keeping with its modernist, snazzy decor there are even lifts between floors.
Definitely the 'work hard play hard' crowd from the financial sector, especially on that traditional work night out Thursday. Expect 30-and-40-somethings including lots of guys in suits, or all-female groups talking shop but letting off some steam.
The Jersey Rock oysters are likely to be your first port of call, and half a dozen served in theirs shells will go down well as a starter, although there are more conventional items such as a soup of the day. Seafood is, naturally, big on the menu, with the haddock and chips proving a crisp and golden - if not a huge - main, and there's a different 'catch of the day'.
